ABFF 2026 Exclusive: Director Nina Lee, Kountry Wayne and Coco Jones talk Rom-Com film ‘That’s Her’
Among the films that had its World Premiere at the 2026 American Black Film Festival and competing in the Narratives Features section is the romantic comedy ‘That’s Her,’ directed by Nina Lee from a script she co-wrote with Dewayne Colley (aka Kountry Wayne) and Tiffany Yancey. The cast includes Kountry Wayne, Coco Jones, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Loretta Devine, Charity Jordan, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Tabitha Brown.
The story follows a corporate-climbing playboy (Wayne) who falls for a girl-next-door office temp (Jones) and a high-powered executive (Lampman). He must choose between love and advancing his career.
Stephen “Dr.” Love (“They Cloned Tyrone,” “Shadow Force,” “The Land”) is producing through his Made with Love Media banner alongside Wayne and his Kountry Wayne Entertainment. Coco Jones is executive producing alongside Latisha Fortune.
The film’s music is being handled by Kids Against Cubicles, the production company launched by LVRN, known for artists like Summer Walker and 6lack. For “That’s Her,” KAC will oversee both the score and soundtrack, blending nostalgic and modern sounds to enhance the film’s humor and emotional depth.
Lee, who has starred in her own projects like The Girls Room and Sorry About That, won the Audience Choice Award at the Chicago International Film Festival for her film ARTISTIC in 2021.
