Hitting theaters on June 20 from Sony Pictures is 28 Years Later, the third installment in the franchise following 2002’s 28 Days Later and the 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later. Directed by Danny Boyle, who helmed the first film, and written by Alex Garland, the cast includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell, Alfie Williams, and Ralph Fiennes.
"Time didn't heal anything." Sometime after the events of 28 Weeks Later, the Rage Virus has returned, and a group of survivors must survive in a world ravaged by hordes of the infected. Shot on an iPhone 15 Pro Max with the aide of numerous specialised attachments.
The film was produced by Bernard Bellew, Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland. It was shot back-to-back with its sequel 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple, which was directed by Nia DaCosta and now set for a January 2026 release.
Boyle is known for directing films such as films Trainspotting, The Beach, Millions, Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, Frankenstein, Trance, Steve Jobs, and Yesterday. Garland has directed the films Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men, Civil War and more recently Warfare.
