Exclusive: Director James Ross II, actress Jasmine Mathews talk horror film Parasomnia
Streaming on Shudder September 4th is PARASOMNIA, the nightmarish feature debut of Gotham Award winner James Ross II, which taps into the horrors of sleep disorders and night terrors.
Led by Jasmine Mathews, PARASOMNIA follows Riley, a young woman tormented by night terrors and a past of unresolved tragedy. When her best friend is the latest to go missing, she begins to suspect the demonic figure lurking in her sleep has crossed over into the real world.
The cast also includes RJ Brown, Sally Stewart, Stephen Barrington, Danny Brown, Simon Longnight. Producers are Gabrielle Chapman and Pacey Hansen.
Mathews is known for her roles in The Tomorrow War (2021), The Man from Toronto (2022) Big George Foreman (2023) and Heathers (2018).
James Ross II is a writer and director raised in the Washington, D.C. area. He builds his stories from emotionally grounded characters living in a world heightened by genre thrills. He loves an unsettling narrative and injects his style of visceral horror while having some fun along the way. James entered the industry in 2023 when he was selected as one of five graduate students to receive a Gotham Award for his horror short film Don’t Blink.
