Exclusive: Keke Palmer, Pete Davidson on trading jokes with Eddie Murphy while filming The Pickup

What happens when a heist goes completely off the rails — and it’s led by Eddie Murphy, Keke Palmer, and Pete Davidson? You get The Pickup, a wild action-comedy that blends high-stakes chaos with laugh-out-loud moments and a little romance on the side. Amazon will stream The Pickup comedy on Prime Video worldwide starting August 6th, 2025

Directed by Tim Story (The Blackening, Ride Along), The Pickup follows Russell (Murphy) and Travis (Davidson), two armored truck drivers who suddenly find themselves caught in a criminal scheme led by Zoe (Palmer), a whip-smart and unapologetically bold thief. The movie’s giving throwback buddy-comedy energy with a modern twist — and fans of classic action comedies are in for a ride.

The film also stars Eva Longoria, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Jack Kesy, Andrew Dice Clay, ex-NFL player Marshawn Lynch, and Joe "Roman Reigns" Anoa'i.

The screenplay is written by Kevin Burrows & Matt Mider. It was produced by John Davis, John Fox, Eddie Murphy, Tim Story, and Charisse Hewitt-Webster

Blackfilmandtv.com correspondent Sharifa Daniels (of Blexmedia.com) sat down with Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson to talk about flipping the script on traditional romantic comedy roles, trading jokes with Eddie Murphy, and the green flags that can make you overlook a few… red ones. Let’s get into it.
