Exclusive: Kiana Madeira, director Mike P. Nelson talk horror movie Beware Boiúna
Hitting theaters on Oct. 2 from Lionsgate is the horror thriller Beware Boiúna, directed by Mike P. Nelson and starring Kiana Madeira, Jessica Rothe, & Logan Marshall-Green. The cast also includes Jackson Bews, Juan Pablo Shuk, Will Close, Vicente Peña, Jaime Newball, Mateo Moreno, Nelson Camayo, and Christophe de Geest.
Deep in the Amazon rainforest, a medical mission spirals into a fight for survival when Boiúna, a colossal ancient predator, awakens to reclaim her domain. In the jungle where nature holds absolute power, she decides who lives and who dies.
A group of humanitarian doctors and rookie physicians travel by boat down the Amazon (near Brazil's Curuçá River) to bring medical care to underserved communities. Their arrival and conflicts with local illegal gold miners and freebooters disturb the ecosystem. This disruption awakens Boiúna, a gigantic mythical and prehistoric serpent from Brazilian folklore. Holding absolute power in the jungle, the colossal predator decides who lives and who dies, blurring the lines between hunter, prey, and hero. Madeira plays Lena, part of a team of young doctors.

Madeira was last seen “Malcolm in the Middle” revival at Disney+. She starred opposite Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek. She is best known for her starring role in the “Fear Street” film trilogy “Fear Street: Part One — 1994”, “Fear Street: Part Two — 1978”, and “Fear Street: Part Three — 1666” at Netflix. Her other film credits include the “After” film franchise at Netflix — “After We Fell,” “After Ever Happy,” and “After Everything” — as well as “Brother” and “Perfect Addiction.” In television, she has previously starred in shows like “Trinkets” and appeared in shows like ”Sacred Lies” and “The Flash.” She also voices Supergirl in the animated series “My Adventures with Superman.” Up next, she will star in and executive produce the indie boxing film “Baby Love.”
Nelson is a former sound mixer and director of the films Summer School, The Domestics, Wrong Turn, and Silent Night, Deadly Night previously, plus a segment in V/H/S/85 and other horror shorts.
