Exclusive: Sophia Mitri Schloss, Nell Verlaque and Sara Echeagaray talk Big Shot Season 2

Currently playing on Disney+ is Season 2 of Big Shot starring John Stamos, Jessalyn Gilsig, Sophia Mitri Schloss, Nell Verlaque, Tiana Le, Tisha Custodio, Cricket Wampler, Sara Echeagaray and Yvette Nicole Brown.

In season two of "Big Shot", Marvyn Korn (Stamos) returns to Westbrook with a new fire, ready to show that his basketball team belongs in D-2 and that he’s still the championship-winning, powerhouse coach he was in the NCAA. Marvyn’s latest plan toward relevance is to get his team broadcast on ESPN and his method is to recruit an unlikely player: Ava (Echeagaray), a gutsy beach volleyball phenom whose public tantrum got her ousted from her own sport. Between losing their assistant coach Holly Barrett (Gilsig) to a rival school, new friction amongst teammates, a sudden and unexpected proximity to boys, and off-the-court disasters that no one could’ve predicted, this season, the Westbrook Sirens have even more to prove.

Nell Verlaque plays ‘Louise Gruzinsky,’ the Westbrook Sirens' star player and point guard. The school's gym was named after her family. Verlaque can also be seen as the lead in Lifetime’s SECRETS IN A SMALL TOWN and has guest starred on BULL. Not only is Nell a fantastic actress, but she is also a trained singer and dancer.

New to the series Sara Echeagaray is Ava, a former star volleyball player who comes to Westbrook after washing out of her sport in a manner similar to Coach Korn. Echeagaray is a 20-year-old, Mexican-American TikTok-native talent and actor who has found the platform to be a great way to release her creativity. While stuck in quarantine, she needed a new creative outlet, and since putting out her TikTok first video a year ago, Sara has gained 7 million followers. Last October, Sara starred in the Cadence13 feature podcast TREAT opposite Kiernan Shipka.

Sophia Mitri Schloss plays ‘Emma Korn,’ the daughter of a temperamental college basketball coach (Stamos) who gets fired from his job and must take a coaching job at an elite all-girls private high school. Schloss’ breakout role came in Megan Griffiths’ critically acclaimed drama Sadie, opposite Melanie Lynskey, John Gallagher, Jr. and Danielle Brooks. On the small screen, Sophia starred in Amazon’s ten-episode comedy series THE KICKS as well as playing the title role of ‘Isabel’ in NBC’s 2012 comedy pilot ISABEL alongside Marcia Gay Harden and Kevin Nealon. Her additional television credits include IFC’s PORTLANDIA, TNT’s THE LIBRARIANS, and NBC’s GRIMM pilot.

Blackfilmandtv.com’s Wilson Morales spoke with Sophia Mitri Schloss, Nell Verlaque and Sara Echeagaray on what to expect in Big Shot Season 2.
