Exclusive: Joshua Bassett, Sofia Wylie, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, and Frankie Rodriguez Talk Season Four of ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ 

Hitting Disney+ on August 9 is its highly anticipated fourth and final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

The new season begins in the aftermath of the epic summer at Camp Shallow Lake that season three chronicled. As Joshua Bassett’s Ricky, Sofia Wylie’s Gina, Julia Lester’s Ashlyn, Dara Reneé’s Kourtney, and Frankie Rodriguez’s Carlos return to East High, they learn what musical they will be performing, a stage production of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. 

Things begin to go awry when Principal Gutierrez announces that Disney has finally decided to make the fourth installment in the High School Musical movie franchise, meaning that the movie will film on location at their high school, disrupting everything and everyone.  

All eight episodes of the season will drop at once, showcasing the talent both of the series’ cast, but also the original Wildcats. Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel, Kaycee Stroh, Bart Johnson, and Alyson Reed all return to the world of High School Musical in captivating ways. 

“It has been such an amazing experience,” Dara Reneé said of working alongside the original Wildcats. “I was literally starstruck every time they were on set.”

Reneé continues, citing working alongside Monique Coleman as a particular highlight for her. “Seeing Monique on screen, especially as a Black girl and seeing that representation, I was so begging for her approval and she gave it to me times a thousand and infinity,” Reneè said of talking with Monique during her audition process for the show. “She has been so supportive of me and so kind and seeing her and filming with her has just been full circle and I’m so grateful that I had the chance to tell that young, little girl Dara that you got to work with your role model.” 

Complete with new original songs and reprises of some old favorites alongside plenty of singing, dancing, and drama, the final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is sure to dazzle fans everywhere.
