TIFF 2025 Exclusive: The Lost Bus interviews with Matthew McConaughey, America Ferrera, & Jamie Lee Curtis

Hitting select theaters on September 19th, 2025, then streaming on Apple TV+ starting October 3rd is The Lost Bus. Directed by Paul Greengrass, the cast includes Matthew McConaughey, America Ferrera, Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, and Spencer Watson. Jamie Lee Curtis of Comet Pictures produces alongside Jason Blum of Blumhouse, Brad Ingelsby, and Gregory Goodman.

The Lost Bus follows the true story of down-on-his luck school bus driver Kevin McKay (Matthew McConaughey) and courageous teacher Mary Ludwig (America Ferrera) in Northern California who battle together against all odds to save 22 children from an escalating inferno that would soon be known as one of America’s deadliest and most destructive wildfires.

Sparked by a faulty electrical transmission line and strong winds, the 2018 Camp Fire spread with terrifying speed. As thousands of firefighters risked their lives to contain the blaze, more than 150,000 acres were scorched and over 52,000 people were forced to evacuate as the town of Paradise was nearly wiped off the map.

Brad Ingelsby adapted the Lost Bus script from Lizzie Johnson’s book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire by Lizzie Johnson, about the 2018 Camp Fire that became the deadliest fire in California history. Curtis has spearheaded the project’s development after hearing the author on NPR, reading the book and bringing the project to Blumhouse, where she has a first-look deal.
