Poster Exclusive: Mike Norice’s documentary ‘Artfully United’
Chris Walters Productions has provide Blackfilmandtv.com with an exclusive look to the poster of the new documentary Artfully United, opening in theaters this October 17th
What began as a chance meeting can sometimes spark something extraordinary. Thirteen years ago, filmmaker and producer Chris Walters walked into a boutique on Melrose Avenue and discovered not just remarkable art, but a lifelong friendship. That boutique belonged to Mike Norice.
Art has the power to bridge gaps and create understanding, and in director DAVE BENNER and producer CHRIS WALTERS’ powerful documentary ARTFULLY UNITED, we see the work of Los Angeles artist and mural painter MIKE NORICE do exactly that.
Norice, born in the Watts section of LA to a schoolteacher mother and a father who was imprisoned when Norice was young, has for almost 15 years painted inspiring messages in some of L.A.’s toughest neighborhoods — the streets Norice knows well, since he grew up there.
Now a renowned sneaker-art designer and painter whose work has been commissioned by superstars and ordinary folks alike, Norice began the Artfully United project in 2012 by painting signs of hope, unity, and encouragement on walls in impoverished areas and gang turf.
His successful store Mike Norice ART showcases his murals, paintings, and illustrations, yet the film goes beyond the craft as Norice’s family and friends discuss growing up in Watts…and the reunion they never could have expected. Like his artwork that continues to lift up lives and spirits, the illuminating festival favorite ARTFULLY UNITED brings together Norice’s talent, advocacy, andheart to make an unforgettable portrait.
