Whoopi Goldberg, Edward James Olmos, Cedric The Entertainer Cast Opposite Mario Van Peebles In Western Film Outlaws

Quiver Distribution announced today that writer/director Mario Van Peebles’ western Outlaws will star Melvin Van Peebles alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Cedric The Entertainer, Edward James Olmos, John Carroll Lynch, William Mapother and M. Emmet Walsh. Outlaws follows Chief (Van Peebles) and his band of renegades as they travel across the country in search of a legendary chest of Civil War reparations gold, while being pursued by an unscrupulous lawman (Mapother) and his brigade of deputies.

Supporting cast includes Cam Gigandet, Allen Payne, Neal McDonough, Mandela Van Peebles, DC Young Fly, Amber Reign Smith, Jake Manley, Joseph Culp, Brian Presley and Sean Bridgers.

Quiver will distribute the project. Outlaws just wrapped production in Montana and was produced by Joshua Russell & Gerald Olson for Iris Indie, Swen Temmel & Meadow Williams for Diamond Films, and Kip Konwiser for Konwiser Brothers Media.  Executive producers include Berry Meyerowitz, Jeff Sackman, Larry Greenberg, Mark Goldberg, and Mario Van Peebles.

In Outlaws, Chief is a renegade cowboy putting together a multicultural team of his new and old friends in order to ride into dangerous unsettled territory to retrieve gold from an abandoned mine. Hot on Chief's tail is Angel, a spurned lawman and Civil War veteran with a thirst for vengeance. So begins a cross-country journey, with Chief and his band of Outlaws crossing paths with a number of interesting historic characters along the way (including a true-to-life Stagecoach Mary played by Academy Award winner Whoopi Goldberg), all while doling out laughter, wisdom, and justice across a ruthless American West.

"We’re thrilled to partner with Mario and this epic ensemble cast for a one-of-a-kind action adventure set in the west, at the dawn of America’s Age of Invention,” said Executive Producers and Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents Meyerowitz and Sackman.  “We can’t wait for audiences to saddle up for this action-packed, wild adventure. With Mario at the helm as director, writer, and star, this film certainly doesn’t hold back.”

“I wanted to make a fresh kickass Western like we’ve never seen, a savvy action adventure with pluck served up in a dirty glass! I knew I’d need a gregarious band of producers to go on this rough and tumble journey with me, and the team at Quiver was ready for the ride!” says Van Peebles.
