Exclusive: 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple interviews with Nia DaCosta, Erin Kellyman, Ralph Fiennes
Coming to theaters on January 16 from Sony Pictures is 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is the sequel to Alex Garland's 28 Years Later (2025). Directed by Nia DaCosta from a screenplay written by Alex Garland again, the cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Alfie Williams, Jack O'Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Chi Lewis-Parry.
"Feat is the new faith!" Expanding upon the world created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in 28 Years Later but turning that world on its head - Nia DaCosta directs The Bone Temple. In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship - with consequences that could change the world as they know it - and Spike's (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O'Connell) becomes a nightmare he can't escape. In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival - the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and much more terrifying.
DaCosta is an award-winning filmmaker whose debut feature Little Woods, starring Tessa Thompson and Lily James, was developed through the Sundance Institute, premiering to critical acclaim at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and securing a theatrical release via Neon. Her follow-up feature Candyman, for MGM, was released by Universal Pictures. She then directed the Marvel pic The Marvels, starring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani. She recently reunited with Thompson in 2025's Hedda.
Kellyman, who plays Jimmy Ink, was recently opposite June Squibb in Eleanor the Great, Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut for Sony. Prior credits include starring opposite Saoirse Ronan and Harris Dickinson in Steve McQueen’s Blitz for Apple TV+, Disney+ and Lucasfilm’s series Willow, based on the film from Ron Howard, as well as Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
