Exclusive: Director Lynn Dow talks Southern Family Drama ‘Bull Street’
Now available on digital from Buffalo 8 is the southern family drama ‘Bull Street,’ written and directed by Lynn Dow. The film is a character-driven Southern drama centered on legacy, resilience, and generational conflict, set in a small South Carolina town.
The film is led by an ensemble including Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Loretta Devine, Oscar and Golden Globe winner Amy Madigan, newcomer Malynda Hale, Emmy Award nominee Arielle Prepetit, Chantal Maurice, Nicky Buggs, Deion Smith and Gary Ray Moore.
Bull Street follows LouEster Sadie Gibbs (Hale), a small-town lawyer raised by her formidable grandmother, Mrs. Big-Gal (Devine). When an Ivy League attorney (Prepetit) challenges the family’s claim to their longtime home and land, LouEster is pulled into a courtroom battle that pits privilege against legacy. Presiding over the case, Judge Motley (Madigan) must decide whether generations of history are enough to secure her birthright.
The film was produced by Lynn Dow and Wendy Tannock under their Up The Road Films banner, with Buffalo 8 co-founders Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor serving as executive producers.
The film features an original score by Oscar-winning composer Anne Dudley (The Full Monty), and was an official selection at the Pan African Film Festival and opened the 2024 Sarasota Film Festival.
