Exclusive: Juliette Lewis talks her return to Cape Fear but in a new role

One of the surprises of watching the Apple series Cape Fear is the return of a familiar face - Juliette Lewis

Inspired by the 1991 remake directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Steven Spielberg, a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison — and he wants vengeance.

Joe Anders, Lily Collias and Malia Pyles round out the ensemble cast, and the supporting cast includes CCH Pounder, Jamie Hector and Anna Baryshnikov

In the 1991 film, Lewis played Danielle Bowden, the teenage daughter of Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange's characters. This breakout performance, featuring a tense auditorium scene with Robert De Niro, earned her an Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actress.

In the 2026 Apple TV+ series: Lewis returned in a surprise cameo as Crystal, an entirely new character. Her mysterious new role involves stalking and menacing the series' central antagonist, Max Cady (played by Javier Bardem). Her new role is introduced in Episode 3 when Max discovers a disturbing video message she left for him.
