Exclusive: Helen Hunt talks Blindspotting and working with Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs

Currently playing on Starz is its new comedy series “Blindspotting,” created and executive produced by Rafael Casal (“The Good Lord Bird,” Bad Education) and Daveed Diggs (“Snowpiercer,” Hamilton), who both also starred in the film in addition to writing and producing it.

Starring Emmy Award winner Jasmine Cephas Jones (“#FreeRayshawn,” Hamilton), “Blindspotting” picks up six months after the film and centers on Ashley (Jones), who is nipping at the heels of a middle-class life in Oakland until Miles, her partner of 12 years and father of their son, is suddenly incarcerated, leaving her to navigate a chaotic and humorous existential crisis when she is forced to move in with Miles’ mother and half-sister.

For the 4-Time Emmy Award and Academy Award winner, this is Hunt’s first regular series role since she came back to reprise her role as Jamie Stemple Buchman in Mad About You’s return in 2019. It’s revival, which aired on Spectrum Originals, only ran as a limited series and 12 episodes. In Blindspotting, she plays Rainey, Miles’ mom with unconventional ways of raising her family.

BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales recently caught up with Hunt as she spoke about her relationship with Casal and Diggs before agreeing to be part of the series.
