Coming out this week on Starz is its new comedy series “Blindspotting,” created and executive produced by Rafael Casal (“The Good Lord Bird,” Bad Education) and Daveed Diggs (“Snowpiercer,” Hamilton), who both also starred in the film in addition to writing and producing it. The new STARZ original series will premiere worldwide on Sunday, June 13 at 9:00PM ET/PT across all STARZ platforms in the U.S. and Canada and will air day and date internationally on the STARZPLAY premium streaming platform across its complete footprint in Europe, Latin America and Japan. “Blindspotting” will also make its World Premiere debut as an Official Selection of Tribeca Film Festival on Friday, June 11.

Starring Emmy Award winner Jasmine Cephas Jones (“#FreeRayshawn,” Hamilton), “Blindspotting” picks up six months after the film and centers on Ashley (Jones), who is nipping at the heels of a middle-class life in Oakland until Miles, her partner of 12 years and father of their son, is suddenly incarcerated, leaving her to navigate a chaotic and humorous existential crisis when she is forced to move in with Miles’ mother and half-sister.

Best best known for originating the dual roles of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in the 2015 Broadway musical Hamilton, Jones is reprising her role from the film. With film credits that include Mistress America, Monsters and Men, Marriage Story, The Photograph, and Honest Thief, Jones won a Primetime Emmy in 2020 for portraying Tyisha in #freerayshawn. In her second series lead, Jones reunites with Casal and Diggs with Casal recurring on the series as her husband.

BlackFilmandTV.com’s Wilson Morales spoke with Jones about playing the role again but for a series as opposed to a sequel.
