Exclusive: June Squibb & Erin Kellyman talk Scarlett Johansson's directorial debut Eleanor The Great
Hitting theaters on Sept. 26 from Sony Pictures Classics is actress Scarlett Johansson's directorial debut Eleanor The Great, starring June Squibb, Erin Kellyman, Jessica Hecht, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
In Eleanor The Great, the legendary 94-year-old actress June Squibb brings to vivid life the witty and proudly troublesome 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein, who, after the devastating loss of her best friend, tells a tale that takes on a dangerous life of its own after moving to New York City. Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut is a comically poignant exploration of how the stories we hear become the stories we tell.
The screenplay is written by newcomer Tory Kamen. Produced by Jessamine Burgum, Kara Durrett, Keenan Flynn, Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Lia, Celine Rattray, and Trudie Styler. The film had its world premiere at the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2025.
This is Squibb’s second recent starring role following the nonagenarian comedy “Thelma,” which sold to Magnolia following its Sundance premiere. Squibb’s other credits include “Palm Springs,” Pixar’s “Soul” and Amy Schumer’s series “Life & Beth.”
Kellyman co-stared with Saoirse Ronan and Harris Dickinson in Steve McQueen’s film “Blitz” for Apple TV+. Another MCU alum, she portrayed Karli Morgenthau in the Disney+ series “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.”
