Exclusive: Taraji P. Henson, Teyana Taylor, and Sherri Shepherd talk Tyler Perry’s Straw

Now streaming on Netflix is Straw, written and directed by Tyler Perry and starring Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar, Shalèt Monique, Ashley Versher, Mike Merrill, Katrina Nelson, Tilky Jones, Diva Tyler, Dasan Frazier and Glynn Turman

A single mother’s world unravels in chaos as her day goes from bad to worse to catastrophic as she struggles to care for her ill daughter. Pushed to the brink by a world that seems indifferent to her existence, she’s forced to confront impossible choices in a society that offers her no safety net.

Producers include Tyler Perry, Tony L. Strickland, Angi Bones, and Will Areu.

Henson was last seen in Peacock‘s limited series Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist. Prior to that she was in The Color Purple, an adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical. She’s best known for her portrayal of Cookie Lyon on the Fox series Empire. Additional credits across TV and film also include Craig Brewer’s Hustle & Flow, Minions: The Rise of Gru, Annie Live!, Think Like a Man, Smokin’ Aces and What Men Want, among many other titles.

After her breakout role in A Thousand and One, Taylor will next be seen in the ensemble cast of Hulu's All's Fair, a new legal series from Ryan Murphy, Netflix crime thriller RIP starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another with Leonardo DiCaprio, and Regina Hall.

Shepherd’s syndicated talk show ‘Sherri’ was recently renewed for fourth season. Her previous acting credits include sitcoms The Jamie Foxx Show (1999-2001), Less than Perfect (2002–2006), Sherri (2009), Trial & Error (2017–2018), and Mr. Iglesias (2019–2020). Her film credits include Beauty Shop, Precious, Madea Goes To Jail, Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, Abducted: The Carlina White Story, Jean of the Joneses, Brian Banks, and Imperfect High.
