Streaming on Netflix on July 2 is The Old Guard 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 2020 film.
Directed by Victoria Mahoney from a screenplay by Greg Rucka and Sarah L. Walker and based on his comic book The Old Guard., the cast includes Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngô, Henry Golding, with Uma Thurman and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Producers include Charlize Theron, AJ Dix, Beth Kono, Marc Evans, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger.
The original pic followed a covert team of immortal mercenaries who are suddenly exposed and must now fight to keep their identity a secret just as an unexpected new member is discovered. The original is one of Netflix’s most popular films to date and was seen by 78M households in its first four weeks.
In the sequel, Andy (Charlize Theron) and her team of immortal warriors are back, with a renewed sense of purpose in their mission to protect the world. With Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) still in exile after his betrayal, and Quynh (Veronica Ngô) out for revenge after escaping her underwater prison, Andy grapples with her newfound mortality as a mysterious threat emerges that could jeopardize everything she’s worked towards for thousands of years. Andy, Nile (KiKi Layne), Joe (Marwan Kenzari), Nicky (Luca Marinelli) and James Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) enlist the help of Tuah (Henry Golding), an old friend who may provide the key to unlocking the mystery behind immortal existence
Veronica Mahoney is known for her work on Suits LA, Lovecraft Country, You, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Morning Show. She made her directorial debut back in 2011 on Yelling to the Sky, which starred Zoë Kravitz, Jason Clarke, and Antonique Smith, and Gabourey Sidibe. Mahoney was a second unit director on J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, making her the first woman and first Black woman to direct a Star Wars film.
