Exclusive: Idris Elba, Jack Quaid and director Ilya Naishuller talk Heads Of State
Hitting Prime Video on July 2 is the action packed dramedy Heads of State, starring Idris Elba as the UK Prime Minister and John Cena as the US President, along with Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, Sarah Niles, and Paddy Considine, along with Sharlto Copley. Ilya Naishuller directed the film from a screenplay written by Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec and Harrison Query; from a story by Harrison Query.
In the action-comedy Heads of State, the UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba) and U.S. President Will Derringer (John Cena) have a not-so-friendly and very public rivalry that jeopardizes their countries' "special relationship." But when they become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary—who proves more than a match for the two leaders' security forces—they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other. Allied with brilliant MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), they must go on the run and find a way to work together long enough to thwart a global conspiracy that threatens everyone.
After providing the voice of Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Elba will next be seen in Kathryn Bigelow’s White House thriller, A House of Dynamite for Netflix, followed by Masters of the Universe, the Travis Knight-directed film for Amazon MGM. Sources said that Elba will play the role of Duncan, Man-At-Arms.
Best known for his role was as vigilante Hughie Campbell in the satirical superhero series The Boys, Quaid has in three 2025 films so far, including Companion, Novocaine, and Heads of State. He’s also has voiced Brad Boimler in the series Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020–2024), and Superman in My Adventures with Superman.
Naishuller is known for directing films such as Hardcore Henry and Nobody, plus lots of shorts and Danila Poperechniy: FUN/LIFEdoc.
