Award-Winning Film Critic Shawn Edwards Chronicles His Life and Career with an Exhibit at the Black Archives of Mid-America During Black History Month

Welcome to "The Life of a Film Critic: As Told by Shawn Edwards" an exhibit chronicling the incredible cinematic journey of Fox 4 News film critic Shawn Edwards. This exhibit celebrates the remarkable trek of a man who turned his love of movies into a career and a way of life. 

The exhibit explores the intricate details of Edwards' professional and personal life. The tools he used,  the movies he championed, people he interviewed, the amazing creations he produced are all central to his work. The exhibit is a time capsule of a self-made career by a man whose restless spirit, energetic personality and unlimited amounts of creativity led to an unimaginable journey that took him from the streets of Kansas City, Missouri to Hollywood and back.

“I hit the benchmark of twenty-five years on television on Fox 4 News as a film critic,” says Edwards. “I thought that this was the perfect time to look back on my career ascension while reflecting on the things that inspired and motivated me along the way. It’s been an incredible ride and I want to share my experience as I embark on my latest challenge of bringing the Black Movie Hall of Fame to life.” 

The exhibit showcases different aspects of Shawn Edwards' journey, focusing not only on his professional accomplishments but also his personal evolution.

Edwards is the co-founder of the African American Film Critics Association (2003), creator and executive producer of the Celebration of Black Cinema and Television (2014), creator of the Juneteenth Film Festival (2022) and creator and executive director of the Black Movie Hall of Fame (2022).

The exhibit is in conjunction with the Black Movie Hall of Fame, a project Edwards has been working on since 2022.

THE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

The exhibit will run from Monday, February 2nd through Friday, February 27th at the Black Archives of Mid-America..

There will be an opening reception on Friday, February 6th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Black Archives of Mid-America.

On Saturday, February 28th the Black Movie Hall of Fame presents a ‘Talk Back’ with Shawn Edwards. It will be an unfiltered conversation that will also feature music and movies beginning at 6:00PM at the Boone Theater.
